Sports Philosophy

The mission of the Pioneer Valley Christian School Athletic Department is to provide a competitive interscholastic athletic program for our student athletes.  We are committed to building a strong tradition of excellence in our athletes on and off the field. Through the challenges of competition, skill development, and daily physical training, we strive to increase our athletic ability and instill character traits of integrity, determination, self-discipline, accountability, confidence, endurance, leadership, and teamwork. These goals are achieved by stressing Christ, Character, and Commitment throughout our program.

Honor Jesus Christ in All Things

We believe the most important measure of our success is how well we represent Christ in all that we do. We recognize our athletic abilities are a gift from God. We work passionately to develop our talents to the utmost for His honor and glory.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23

Christian Character Defines Who We Are

We seek to be self-controlled and to make godly choices in all things. We respect our teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and ourselves. We understand our place as role models to our peers and to the younger athletes.  We consider the team’s needs above our own needs. We believe getting better demands hard work, endurance, and proper lifestyle. We play with passion, enthusiasm, and energy.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 5:9

“Preach the word: be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage – with great patience and  careful  instruction.”    II Timothy 4:2

For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.” Romans 12:3

“But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.”                         II Corinthians 14:40

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.”                 II Peter1:5-7

Commitments are Paramount

Showing up and honoring our word is the expectation.  Competing at the highest possible level is the result.  We are driven to overcome personal discouragement with the help of the Holy Spirit to make a positive contribution to the team.  We strive to be an asset to the team for the entire season, regardless of our role on the team.  We understand the importance of being punctual and dependable.  We have prayerfully weighed the cost of membership before making a commitment to the team.

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline."  II Timothy 1:7

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."  II Timothy 4:7

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”   I Thessalonians 5:11
